Tucked away in an old church in the North East Scottish village of Whitehills lies Watergaw Ceramics, a pottery run by the amazing Fiona Duckett!
Fiona makes in glaze reduction lustre ware, which has the iridescence of oil on water or a peacock’s feather, featuring all the colours of the rainbow. Watergaw is an ancient Scots word for a partial rainbow, which is beautifully describes what Fiona creates!
I had the fantastic privilege of working with Fiona as her studio assistant for the summer, helping to produce her handbuilt jewellery and homeware designs, such as these beautiful fish, and also having the opportunity to try out some of my own designs and practice throwing.
Fiona was a fantastic mentor and it was a joy working with her and learning about her process!
